The lawyers told Chief Justice (CJ) Ian Chang at the High CourtLocal Govt. MinisterGanga Persaudthat they were unable to file an answer relating to the legal proceedings brought against Minister Persaud for the “arbitrary” appointment of the current secretary to the Georgetown City Council, despite the CJ initially giving two weeks for the lawyers to file their answer to King’s application to the court.Royston King, who is also City Hall’s Public Relations Officer, was one of four candidates who applied for the Town Clerk position when interviews were held for the post. He is seeking to have the CJ quash the Local Government Minister’s appointment of Sooba, since according to the interview panel set up by the Local Government Ministry, she was the least qualified applicant, yet she was the one deemed “most suitable” for the post.The Local Government Minister is being asked by the court to explain his actions, given the fact that he went against the recommendations of the Local Government-convened interview panel which was made up of executive Local Government officers.Yesterday’s proceedings however saw Attorney Adrian Smith asking the court for an extended time since the answer to King was not provided to the Court.
