I'd much rather get some constructive criticism than the neverending same old "Good for yoooouuuuuuuu.."-bullshit that makes up 999% of all comments on here Plus if I started writing 'offensive' comments to blogs I don't like I wouldn't get off the computer anymore So I don't I'm not interested in wasting my time arguing with strangers on the internet If I was I wouldn't do it anonymously though
And just if anybody is interested to hear: when I was a member on this website for less than a month and just published my first couple of blogs which were really only meant to be read by friends and family I got several negative comments by one of the MODERATORS attacking me personally for not liking his favourite country Needless to say I was quite shocked and immediately deleted the comments I thought "Wtf I don't want any random douchebags reading my blog" so I went private for the next two and a half years Since then my blog has evolved from mere info for the folks back home to a more general commentary about the places I travel so I went public again not that long ago I'm a front-page blogger now I haven't gotten any more negative comments though despite the fact that I think my blog is quite offensive in parts for I don't pull my punches and I prefer straight talking to superficial bullshit That moderator is still a moderator I think and he's one of those much-revered bloggers who get showered constantly with flowery comments and compliments I wonder whether he'd still get those if people realized what a 'hater' he is.

Goodness me I didnt know any of the moderators here are posting such negative comments that it would cause somebody to make their blog private They can disagree with blogger if they want but there is certainly a way this should be done Communication skills apply
Note: Private blogs are also visible to moderators for moderating purposes
Jens would you mind sending me a private message about this and describe the comments if you don't still have them I want to determine if they are just disagreeing with your opinion or if they are something we should monitor for the future Keep in mind though that moderators are just members with extra rights but don't necessarily present TravelBlogs view when they post and comment

And what's with that culture of constant incessant backscratching on Travelblog
Many bloggers warrent it in my opinion I tend to say nothing at all when they dont so that would account for my top heavy tendancy of compliments over negative comments about bloggers and blogs Dont know why the others are so complimentary though Maybe they will post here and explain themselves
Why are good old-fashioned irony and sarcasm so conspicuously absent from this site Where are all the Australians telling her to "Toughen up princess" Why does any criticism automatically make you an outcast
I suppose many have become allergic to the type of careless negativity that is frequently posted on internet forums that drags down all other more productive or fun discussion
TravelBlog has a reputation for being nice and many regulars comments on this but I do wish that there was more action on the forums Being nice is nice but maybe it is not enough to spark lively forums Not so sure it would be a good idea to have comments like 'toughen up princess' though because I think those who say things like that tend to have very little else to say Internet forums tend to become burried under heaps of that type of comment and not much else

Concur with you Mel if I don't have something positive to say then I don't say it all - there are better things to do with my time
For me the golden rule on the forums is about respect - not a "do unto others as they would do unto you" maxim as some people might have no problem to receive a direct comment but others would be offended So it comes down to validating people on the forums - trying to understand (not always easy to do) how a person feels and respect it
For example I am never a person to undertake an organised tour (unless forced to - ie North Korea); yet if someone on the forums expresses a strong desire to undertake an organised tour and asks about what sites to see then I'll answer their question about sites without imposing my views on the negatives of organised tours
I agree that constructive negative criticism is important not only on the forums but in all facets of life - as long as it is genunitely constructive and respectful

Hi zuzuzu the 'Toughen up princess' wasn't directed at you it was just a cheap shot at Australians who really love to say insensitive stuff like that If somebody writes a nasty comment you got all right to react the way you did OK.
