After stealing a video camera, biting a police sergeant and assaulting two other ranks, an 18-year-old Berbician begged Magistrate Chandra Sohan for a chance to bargain with the court. But the magistrate was not prepared to enter into any agreement with Aubrey Mc Lennon and sentenced him to a total of nine years, three months in jail, on seven different charges. Earlier,Jerseys NFL Wholesale, McLennon had identified himself as Abdool Melaram.Yesterday Mc Lennon pleaded guilty to all the charges after blaming demons for his troubles.Magistrate Sohan, presiding at the Whim Magistrate’s Court, heard how on March 29, last, Mc Lennon robbed Yogata Singh of Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara of one digital movie camera and other articles before turning on police ranks who attempted to arrest him.In addition to the robbery, Mc Lennon was also charged with inflicting grievously bodily harm on woman Sergeant Yonnette Stephen and Police Constable Antonio Balroop while resisting arrest. On the same day he also assaulted Rural Constable Lalma Gajraj.Prosecutor Roberto Figueira told the court that on the day in question Singh was at the races with family and friends and had left her bag containing the camera and other articles on a bench next to her, when the thief sneaked up and removed it.The Prosecutor further told the court that as the thief was approaching the gate, he was seen by Sergeant Stephen acting in a suspicious manner, and holding something bulky under his shirt. He was challenged by the sergeant who held on to him as he tried to escape. The crook then started to lash out at the police rank as she continued to hold him and they both ended up on the ground. The demons had apparently taken hold of Mc Lennon. The other officers responded and tried to apprehend the culprit. They all received injuries as the bandit bit, cuffed and kicked at the officers, trying desperately to escape.Mc Lennon, who broke down in tears, told the magistrate that he couldn’t understand how he received so many charges. The man at first pleaded not guilty to some of the charges, but subsequently changed his plea, explaining that he was overcome by demons.McLennon, who was described as a nuisance, said that on the day in question, he was picking up bottles at the races when he saw a bag on the ground. He picked it up and wanted to return it, but something in him told him to keep it.“God de telling me fuh return it, but de demon tell me keep it.”He further explained that he was taking the bag to the lady at the gate when he encountered the police. He then begged the magistrate to see with him, saying that he was always being treated unfairly. He said that he never assaulted anybody but overbalanced and his hands accidentally hit the female sergeant in her mouth when she held him.Shedding tears, the man said, “The father know me ain’t do all them things. Ow sir; see with me, help me out. You know dem does always set me up”.“A begging. Sir, leh we bargain,” the convict cried. However, Magistrate Sohan was in no mood to entertain any suggestion from Mc Lennon.
