| An evening of fun and enjoyment among friends ended deadly when a vehicular accident at Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, just after midnight on Friday, left two persons dead and two injured.Dead are 29-year-old Wayram ‘Dutchie’ Narine Ramsamooje of Lot 140 Clifton Settlement, Port Mourant, and 18-year-old David Seelall of Lot 122 Back Street, Sisters’ Village, East Bank Berbice. Those injured are Ivor Bennett, 21, and Zaman Alli, 18, of Lot 78 Sisters’ Village. The latter was sitting in the front seat of the silver grey Toyota Spacio.Wayram ‘Dutchie’ Narine RamsamoojeThe driver, who escaped with minor injuries, was arrested and is in police custody.The badly mangled car is now parked in front of the driver’s house at Sisters’ Village. The driver, Daniel Rambharose, popularly called ‘Omar Khan’ is in custody at the Springlands lockups. All of the men are cousins while Bennett was a friend.According to reports, the four friends from Sisters’ Village left in the car which they rented from Paragon Car and Minibus Rental Service of Goed Bananen Land, East Canje, Berbice on Friday afternoon. They ended up at Skeldon.After the enjoyment was over, the men were heading back to Sisters Village when the driver lost control of the vehicle as they approached the ‘Black Water Bridge’ which connected Line Path, Corriverton to Crabwood Creek.“The car bounced off the bridge, and hit the lantern post and then a huge Christmas tree on the road,” said a relative.Seelall’s mother, Bissoondai Ibarran, stated that her son left home on Friday afternoon with a few “close friends”.“He go out on the road and I didn’t know he gone ‘till suh.” He leaves to mourn his father, Ramcharitar Seelall and eight siblings. He was employed as a weeder at the Rose Hall Estate.Ramsamooje’s sister Banita Ramsamooje said that her brother was a contractor. He leaves to mourn his wife, Sarah and a one-year- old daughter Sophia. She said that the men picked up her brother and continued their journey to the Upper Corentyne area. They received a telephone call after 01:00hr that he had perished in an accident.Bennett was in bed yesterday at the New Amsterdam Hospital only nursing an injury to his jaw. He was in severe pain though. He stated that he was sleeping before the car hit the post. He awoke and discovered himself at the corner of the road.Alli was resting at his Sisters Village home last evening. His mother, Sunita, said that her son doesn’t remember much what happened, only that “the car bounced on the bridge and hit the post and then a tree and he said the car turned over.” “He get knock in his head and his knee and stomach.”David SeelallHe has to re- visit the New Amsterdam Hospital for x- rays. She said that her son left home Friday evening around 19:00 hrs.Police investigations into the accident are ongoing, while Paragon Rental remained tight-lipped when asked about details about the rental of the vehicle as well as number plates. |
