| The 27-year-old Supply,Jimmie Foxx Red Sox Jersey, East Bank Demerara resident who had in his possession an unlicensed firearm was yesterday remanded to prison after he pleaded not guilty to the offence.When John Simpson appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry he was told that the police have alleged that on July 15 he had in his possession one .38 Taurus revolver without being the holder of a valid firearm licence.The court heard that on the day of the arrest police ranks went to America Street where Sergeant Caesar had the defendant under surveillance for approximately one hour.During the process the defendant was seen attending to a vehicle occupied with persons unknown, he then left the vehicle for a few minutes before he returned carrying along a blue and white bag.Simpson was then approached by a police officer who identified himself and told the defendant of his suspicion. A search was conducted with the bag being searched. The firearm was found.He,Frank Thomas White Sox Jersey, Simpson,Carlton Fisk Red Sox Jersey, was cautioned, arrested and taken to Criminal Investigation Department head quarters. There he was told of the allegation and subsequently charged with the offence.The defendant was represented by Attorney at Law,Christian Vazquez Red Sox Jersey, Satesh Kissoon,Albert Almora Jr. Cubs Jersey, who told the court that his client was arrested by the police in relation that he had knowledge of the occupants in the car who had the firearm in their possession.Kissoon stated that persons in the car were not apprehended by the ranks since they drove away when the police officer collect their bag.The attorney then went on to say that after the ranks were unsuccessful in obtaining the information,Wade Boggs Red Sox Jersey, they charged his client with the offence.Simpson is expected to make his next court appearance on November 1. |
