During the 1st treatments, Ashley shifted his aim toward golf. While he also enjoyed soccer and winter sports, those sports would endanger his immune system and bone density. Golf, he knew, will be easier on him actually to continue playing once this individual was able to do so.
He adopted his favorite golf specialists, Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia, constantly on tv. His friends aided his desire to play during his toughest times.
"Some friends gave me a exercise putting green so I may play in the hospital," he explained with a smile. "That was really neat. It helped pass some time."
After almost the complete year of treatment, Ashley eventually left Children's Hospital to return dwelling in August 2005. Shortly after that, he joined his relatives in the annual Boston Demonstration Jimmy Fund Walk. The Ashleys recently completed the walk being a family for the third time last month.
Ashley returned to school regular the second half of his freshman year in 2006, then begun going full time   without the aid of a wheelchair   beginning as being a sophomore that fall. Still, he was a full year behind his / her classmates academically.
The high school proposed he take summer instruction, but Ashley chose not to. As an alternative, he went against the university's advice and doubled on his courses. Because he had broken his foot during the summer taking his golf items out of the trunk of her car, Ashley was in a cast and had to be off their foot. "One of the few positives this came out of this situation was of which Matt got a chance to target his studies," the father said. "He doubled up taking honors classes plus managed to finish with high honors. We were quite impressed.In
Finally, this past January, He went into full remission. An "end involving treatment" celebration was held in his honour at the family's home, exceeding 150 people   including spouse and children, friends, nurses and health professionals   in attendance.
"Patients and stories just like Matt's are the reason why I got into oncology medicine," said Physician. Steven Dubois, who was Ashley's primary physican at Kids Hospital.
"He was as unwell as they get with all the issues, but I look at him (at this moment) and I'm so glad I truly do what I do."
Ashley valued one of his last treatment sessions, when he delivered one among his family's favorite estimates toward his doctor.
