A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed at around 08:30 hrs yesterday after slamming headlong into a utility pole in James Street, Albouystown.The victim, Ralph Stewart, of Castello Housing Scheme, had reportedly swerved to avoid crashing into a car when the accident occurred.The utility pole which Stewart crashed into.According to an eyewitness, Stewart was proceeding east along James Street at a fast rate when he was forced to swerve from a car which was heading towards him.“I was at the corner shop when I see he coming down the road with one speed and then all of a sudden I hear blam! and when I turn around I see he deh lie down”, the eyewitness said.“He get a hard hit because he whole head nearly split in half and he de done going because he eyes were moving and them boys rushed he to the hospital,” the resident said.“Both of them were travelling at a tremendous speed and they both calculated wrong distance but he had on no helmet maybe that could have saved his life,” a resident said.A relative of the dead man told Kaieteur News that Stewart woke him up around 7:30 hrs and said he was going to “make a spin.”“He tell me and another boy that he going and mek a spin and come again but somebody else come back and seh that he end up in an accident,” the grieving relative said.The relative said that when he arrived on the scene of the accident the victim and his motorcycle had already been removed.Stewart leaves to mourn his young daughter who resides in French Guiana. |
