Adam Development/Urbahn Associates, LTD (ADUA), in a statement yesterday, announced that the sod-turning ceremony to mark the start of construction for the Marriott Hotel in Kingston is to be rescheduled upon receipt of the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) Permits.The date was tentatively scheduled for the end of July when President Bharrat Jagdeo had announced that the investors had requested a one-month stay.This newspaper has since been reliably informed that the environmental study that would clear the way for the EPA permit has not been completed and is expected to take at least a month.In April 2008,Chicago White Sox Jerseys, ADUA presented its design plans and drawings of the hotel to key stakeholders including EPA, Mayor and City Council (M&CC),Tommy McDonald Eagles Jersey, Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), Sea Defence Board, and the government. On May 16, 2008, the EPA held a scope meeting to determine the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the Environmental Impact Assessment being completed by Environmental Management Consultants. In June 2008, the ToR was approved by the EPA and posted on the EPA website. The financing closing will be consummated in Guyana via its Guyanese subsidiary that will be executing the project on behalf of ADUA. In May , ADUA under contract from the Government of Guyana and GWI constructed new sewerage pipes to allow the site to be cleared for construction. The well was also relocated. Additionally, in May, ADUA at its own cost completed initial clearing, and demolition of buildings including the former Luckhoo Pool. One building temporarily remains and will be used as a construction site office. The hotel portion of the complex would be approximately 135,000 square feet, consist of 160 rooms, and be operated by Marriott International.The Casino and entertainment portion of the complex would comprise approximately 50,000 square feet and be located on three levels.ADUA has identified its investment to be US$52 million, with an average yearly turnover in the first 10 years of approximately US$11million. |
