| A former security guard has reportedly confessed to strangling his wife in a fit of jealousy and hiding her body under a bed at their Lot 12, Supply, East Bank Demerara home.The victim, 24-year-old Fiona Mc Pherson, was found lying on her back under her bed at around 07:30 hrs yesterday.Her hands were bound behind her back with a long-sleeved shirt, while a vest was knotted around her throat.Mc Pherson’s 33-year-old husband turned himself over to police at Reliance, East Canje Berbice some four hours after his wife’s body was discovered.A police statement said that Mc Pherson’s husband, who is the suspect in the matter, reported to the police at about 12: 15 hrs yesterday and is “assisting with the investigations.”Kaieteur News understands that detectives have secured a statement in which the suspect confessed to strangling his spouse because she had been unfaithful to him.It is alleged that, in the statement, the man said that he came home on Sunday and caught his spouse with another man.It is alleged that, despite her pleadings, the man began to choke Mc Pherson until she became motionless.He became afraid and hid Mc Pherson’s body under the couple’s bed, before fleeing the scene and heading for Berbice, where he has relatives.On arrival in Berbice, he confided in a family friend, who advised him to surrender to the police, and accompanied him to the Reliance Police Station.Asked about a possible motive for the brutal killing, relatives of the slain woman said that the couple had a stormy relationship.They also said that some neighbours reported seeing Mc Pherson and her spouse fighting on Sunday, and had also heard them arguing.An uncle of Fiona Mc Pherson occasionally occupied a bedroom at the same house where the murder occurred.The uncle and his reputed wife slept in the house on Sunday night, blissfully unaware of the presence of Mc Pherson’s bound and throttled corpse in one of the bedrooms.The uncle’s reputed wife told Kaieteur News that she last saw Fiona Mc Pherson alive at around 11:00 hrs on Sunday, while passing the home.She said that she also saw the woman’s husband, but observed nothing that hinted at the tragedy to come.The woman said that, at around 14:00 hrs on Sunday, she and Fiona’s uncle went to the house and found the front door padlocked.They assumed that no one was at home, but Fiona’s uncle used a spare key to gain entry. The couple then went to their bedroom.Kaieteur News was told that, at around 08:00 hrs yesterday, the woman was passing Fiona Mc Pherson’s half-opened bedroom when she decided to look inside. It was then that she saw a leg protruding from under the bed.“I run and tell Monty (the uncle) that I see a foot under the bed, and I peep under the bed and see that it was she (Fiona),” she said. Her reputed husband informed a relative, who contacted the police.The woman said that, after the body was discovered, a sister of Fiona Mc Pherson informed her that Mc Pherson’s husband had contacted her by telephone and stated that his wife was dead.She related that the sister said she had tried to contact Fiona’s uncle by cell phone, but got no response.According to another uncle, Fiona and her husband had been married for several years, but the relationship had soured and the couple argued frequently.The uncle said that Fiona had indicated that she was migrating to Barbados soon without her spouse, and had already purchased her airline ticket. |
