All affected customers have been compensated and their vehicles are back in working order, said a representative of the Guyana Oil Company (GUYOIL) Providence Terminal yesterday.Several customers had their vehicles malfunction on Sunday after purchasing tainted gasoline from the GUYOIL Service Stations at Providence and on Sheriff Street, Georgetown. The tainted fuel this newspaper had reported was sourced from bulk tanks at the Providence Terminal. The representative, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the service stations sold contaminated fuel to the customers. It was however noted that the contaminated fuel which originated from the Terminal was placed in a single tank at either of the service stations. As such, the representative asserted it was only those customers who received fuel from those tanks saw their vehicles “breaking down” soon after fuelling up.This newspaper was informed on Sunday that more than 20 motorists discovered that water was a part of the content of their fuel tanks following intense scrutiny of their vehicles. At the GUYOIL Providence Service Station, which this newspaper had visited, there were several disgruntled customers whose vehicles had broken down even before they could have driven off after filling up. When Kaieteur News arrived on the scene some affected cars were already towed away.Clifton Douglas, one of the customers at the Providence Station told Kaieteur News that he has been purchasing gasoline for his vehicle for quite some time there and no such incident has ever occurred. “The supervisor says that they will stand the expenses when we spoke to him but he said that we need to leave the cars here because the mechanic can’t come until Monday (yesterday),” Douglas had added.Remaining true to its word,NFL Jerseys China, GUYOIL yesterday compensated the affected customers for the difficulties they endured as a result of contaminated fuel. “All of the customers who bought the contaminated fuel were all refunded. We fixed their vehicles and we gave them back good clean fuel from the other tanks that were not contaminated. We were able to deal with all of the customers since Sunday night.”Additionally, the representative related that the fuel situation will undoubtedly be rectified today with the arrival of a vessel laden with gasoline and dieseline intended to replenish the depleted stock level. This newspaper was able to confirm the arrival of the vessel and was able to ascertain that the fresh stock was made available to the Service Stations. It was disclosed that the contaminated fuel was removed from the Service Stations and was returned to the Terminal. As such, the representative articulated that customers should not be afraid to continue to support GUYOIL as every measure has been put in place to ensure that no further incident of contamination reoccurs. An associate of the oil company had told this newspaper on Sunday that the contamination problem may have developed due to a decision to “suck” fuel from the depleted fuel tanks at the Providence Terminal located behind the Providence Service Station. The Terminal was without consumable gasoline and dieseline for almost one week prior and therefore was forced to procure fuel from both the Sol Guyana Inc. and Texaco Terminals. However, in order to fuel its own service stations Sunday, this newspaper was told that instructions may have been passed from the GUYOIL management to “suck” fuel from the depleted tanks. The source told this newspaper that due to the depleted level of the tank the water concentration in the tanks would have been significant, thus, resulting in the tainted fuel being made available to the service stations and by extension to customers.Prior to yesterday, GUYOIL had received a modest supply of fuel about two weeks ago. Early last week fuel levels of gasoline and dieseline became exhausted, prompting the management of the fuel entity to replenish its stock with purchases from the other Terminals. It was related that the situation was not caused by a delay in the arrival of a fuel vessel but rather due to the rehabilitation of the terminal’s jetty, a process which according to reports could have affected the offloading of fuel had it arrived during the works.According to a source close to the operation of the terminal, management was aware of the need for the repairs to the jetty, thus could have procured extra fuel at the last purchase.Efforts to contact the Managing Director of the Company yesterday for a comment were futile.
