The preliminary inquiry into the Kaieteur News killings recommenced yesterday, before Magistrate Nigel Hawke, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.After a number of adjournments over the past year Lance Corporal of Police,Cheap Wholesale Jerseys, John Laundry, took the witness box and was cross examined by Attorney at law Compton Richardson.Charged with the murders of Kaieteur News pressmen , Eion Wegman, Shazim Mohamed, Chetram Persaud, Richard Stewart and Mark Maikoo, are Dwight Da Silva, Quincy Evans, and a juvenile identified as Nasty Man.Jermine “Skinny” Charles, who was also among the accused, was killed last year on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway with another wanted man, Rondell “Fine-man” Rawlins.Laundry gave evidence in chief about a caution statement which he reportedly took from Dwight Da Silva. The Lance Corporal also told the court about his role in the investigation into the August 8, 2006 slaying of the pressmen at Eccles East Bank Demerara.Laundry was re-examined by Police Prosecutor Robert Tyndall. Three other witnesses who had previously given evidence in the matter were recalled yesterday. They were Nadine Wegman, the wife of Eion Wegman; Rasheed Mohamed, the father of Shazim Mohamed; and Ganesh Persaud the son of Chetram Persaud.Their testimonies were merely to identifying their relatives as the persons who were slain that fateful night.The preliminary inquiry had been placed on hold after Former Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys was removed from the bench.Police Inspector Trevor Reid and Corporal Charles Britton have all testified in the matter. Meanwhile Ramchand Harripersaud, Edgar Stewart, Cobeer Persaud and Savatri Tarwattie, also known as “Lisa”, are asked to make urgent contact with Prosecutor Robert Tyndall at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. The case is expected to continue on June 3.The pressmen were all shot at the Eccles Press. |
