Police have moved a step closer to solving the case of murdered Alpha Guest House owner, Roselaine Hall.Yesterday, investigators further grilled the dead woman’s ex-husband, Alex Barker, who is reportedly cooperating fully. They also interrogated Hall’s husband, Romeo Rockerfeller, who continues to maintain that he had nothing to do with her death. However, Kaieteur, News understands that investigators were provided with solid information that points to Rockerfeller’s involvement in the woman’s demise. They were also provided with information on other persons, including a policeman who they say could greatly assist with their investigations. There are reports that the policeman may have been directly involved in the killing of the woman.Yesterday detectives were taken to a location on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway and they also re-visited the area where Hall’s decomposing body was discovered. The investigation received a shot in the arm on Tuesday when Hall’s former husband, Alex Barker, called ‘Amkabima’ was held at Bartica on Tuesday.Barker, for whom a wanted bulletin was issued two months after Hall went missing, was brought to the city on Wednesday. After questioning Barker, detectives then arrested Romeo Rockerfeller, who was married to Hall at the time of her death.Detectives received information about the plot to murder the hotel proprietress and dispose of her body to make it look like a kidnapping.According to a source, one of the suspects who claimed that he was out of the country at the time had never left Guyana.Rockerfeller, who also goes by several aliases, was detained by police a few weeks after Hall disappeared, when he told investigators that he was in Trinidad. But when asked to produce his passport, it was discovered that it had no entry and exit stamps. He then told detectives that he had used another document to travel.Yesterday, he was again grilled about his whereabouts at the time of his wife’s disappearance, and according to a source, he gave conflicting stories.Former staff members of the Alpha Guest House, who were contacted by this newspaper yesterday, said that they were always suspicious that persons close to the guesthouse owner were connected to her disappearance and subsequent murder. They claimed that following Hall’s disappearance her closest associates seemed only interested in her property. They said that there were also rumours of a plan to kidnap the guesthouse owner and extort money from her. Roselaine Pearl Hall, a citizen of the United States of America, disappeared on January 30, last year. She was last seen leaving a hairdressing salon in the city. According to reports, her ex-husband had picked her up and she went back to her guesthouse where she collected $22,000 from the cashier and left with the man.Checks were made at the various ports of entry after reports that Hall had left for Suriname were circulated. However it was ascertained that Hall never left Guyana. Even the American embassy in Georgetown was informed about the woman’s disappearance.Suspicions began to grow when Barker reportedly contacted Hall’s husband and informed him that his missing wife’s car was at Parika, East Bank Essequibo. In the ensuing weeks speculation upon speculation began circulating with everything pointing heavily to Barker’s involvement in Hall’s disappearance.Hall’s mother, Joyce McPherson-Hall, who lives in the US, had claimed that her daughter was in the process of completing a divorce from her current husband.Rockerfeller did not deny this, but said his wife had only done so out of anger and had later informed him that she had scrapped the matter.“She told me that she wanted a divorce because she was upset at the time and went and file something but then she tell me that she went to the judge and scrap,” he had claimed.Six weeks after her disappearance, the decomposed remains of a female wrapped in a blue tarpaulin was discovered in the vicinity of Yarrowkabra on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway dressed in clothing positively identified as those worn by the missing Alpha Hotel owner Roselaine Hall the day she was last seen. The body was discovered by workers in the area about one and a half miles off the Linden Highway.Rockerfeller has been managing the guesthouse ever since his wife disappeared.Hall, a United States citizen by birth, had come to Guyana to run the guest house following the death of her father, Byron Dick, who was gunned down outside his home back in 2003.Dick was the original owner of all of the Alpha Hotel outlets. Detectives are confident that they will soon get to the point when charges will be instituted.“We are making headway but there is still a lot more investigation to be done,Wholesale Jerseys,” a source told Kaieteur News. |
