The spanking new police outpost at Park Lane, Amelia’s Ward was yesterday officially opened with a simple ceremony where several police top brass including Police Commissioner Henry Greene, were present.Also gracing the occasion was Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, who delivered the feature address, Commander of E&F Division David Ramnarine and Region Ten Chairman, Mortimer Mingo.The long-awaited police outpost became operational on August 14, last, and to date has been acting on several reports which resulted in the prosecution and conviction of some persons, it was reported by a rank in charge of the facility.The police commissioner in his brief remarks told the gathering that the police cannot work without the community, and therefore exhorted all to work towards bridging the gap between the two.“The Police must have the support of the community,” Greene emphasised.Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee called the station management committee the driving force behind the establishment of the Police outpost.He expressed optimism that the organization with its committed cadre of officers can certainly help to bridge that gap.Rohee said that the outpost was the first to be completed for 2011.He spoke of the significance of the police outpost and quoting a popular song, “Tonight will be a good night” (in Amelia’s ward).Rohee said that the day was very significant– if not historic, and described the police outpost as a symbol of a ‘bright spot’, as an outpost is always a bright spot, and always welcome.“Police outposts create psychological comfort- buildings like these always create comfort in the minds of citizens,” Rohee declared.He added that police stations are places where quick responses are expected, and that obviously there will be need for the necessary transportation to ensure such.Rohee applauded the station Management Committee for their initiative and support throughout the process of establishing the outpost.He wished the Committee well in its further collaboration with the police.According to Rohee there are provisions for six police outposts in the 2011 budget and some of them are almost complete.Meanwhile,Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale, Station Management committee chairman Lethem Wilson pointed out that an area in proximity to the police outpost has already been designated for the establishment of a scout headquarters.Wilson also spoke of the need for a new vehicle to help enhance the work of both the Police and the station management committee.Public Relations Officer, Cathy Wilson, took the opportunity to thank all those who collaborated to ensure the timely establishment of the Police outpost. He said a special thank you to the Linden fund USA for the present of a photocopier to the police outpost.After the ceremonial ribbon cutting persons were allowed to tour the facility which boasts a barrack room for ranks, lock ups, a kitchen, radio room and bathroom facilities.
