Guyana’s participation at last weekend’s Agro-Fest exhibition in Barbados is expected to result in more Barbadian investors coming to Guyana to engage in livestock rearing and other projects in the agricultural sector there. This is according to Guyana’s Honorary Consul in Barbados, Norman Faria. The Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) set up at booth at Agro-Fest, informing Bajans about investment opportunities in Guyana.“Our participation was very successful; we had a representative sample of Guyanese fruits and vegetables on hand as well as canned and packaged items from several Guyanese farmers and manufacturers in the agro business sector,” said Faria. He said that the response was so good that the Bajans thought that “we should have brought up container loads.”According to Faria, there were many inquiries about cassava bread and “Mamee” apples and limes, the latter apparently in short supply now.The Consulate gave more information to those actually planning to visit Guyana to meet with the Guyana Office for Investment (GO-INVEST).“Barbados must be commended for its black belly sheep rearing programme and we in Guyana can help expand this. We have the extensive land area and plenty of silage (food) for them as well as opportunities for joint projects with Guyanese. The future looks very bright indeed in this regard,” said Faria. The Consul thanked the organisers, the Barbados Agricultural Society and the Ministry of Agriculture in Barbados, for their invitation to the GMC and courtesies extended.“I do firmly believe that this ongoing co-operation between Guyana ad Barbados underscores our willingness, against the background of Barbados’ high food import bill for extra regional items,Jerseys Wholesale, to play our role in supplying good quality fruits and vegetables and agro-business products “, said Consul Faria.
