Education Minister, Dr. Rupert Roopnaraine addressed the graduates of the Al Ghazali Islamic Academy, recently, at their annual Graduation Ceremony for the Primary Department.The Education Minister, who was the Guest Speaker, greeted the attendants in Arabic, before he expressed how honoured he was to have been given the opportunity to address the graduates of the Al Ghazali Islamic Academy’s Primary Department.The Minister also said, “I am very happy that this school caters to the needs of orphans” since the school has a wide cross section of students, with a few of them being orphans and non-Muslim.The school promotes peace, love and tolerance of each other’s culture and that is the main reason why the administration opted to take in non-Muslim teachers and students.Director of Public Prosecution, Shalimar Hack, General Manager of the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) and other executives from the CIOG along with parents and well-wishers were among the guests.The school has seen a significant improvement in its performance at the National Grade Six Assessment since 2012. This year two of the 21 graduates gained places in the top 100 of the country.The two girls, Aselah Najab and Raissa Young, will both be attending Queen’s College come September.Additionally Shamar Bruce, another high performer in the school, will be attending The Bishops’ High School.Dr. Roopnarine presented certificates to all the graduating students and encouraged them to be meaningful Guyanese citizens.
