Charges are likely for an East Coast Demerara man, after he allegedly inflicted a sound trashing on a 45-year-old woman, which has caused her to become paralyzed from the waist down.Bibi Ali 45, of Lot 9 North Vryheid’s Lust, was yesterday afternoon rushed to the Georgetown Hospital by a male associate.According to reports, the woman was brought to the hospital by the suspect, who had initially informed hospital officials that Ali had fallen from the couple’s bed.However, the woman told doctors a different story.According to Ali, she and the suspect had an argument on Saturday night around 19:00hrs.The woman said that during the argument, the man struck her on the neck with a piece of wood.After the woman had divulged what had happened, the suspect was taken into custody.The suspect, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was still adamant that Ali had fallen off of the couple’s bed.The source further stated that the woman had admitted that the couple’s relationship had been very abusive.Over the past months, there has been an alarming amount of domestic violence, some of which have ended in murder.Six months ago, female security guard, Patricia Rose, was stabbed several times about the body by her estrange lover. The woman succumbed to her injuries last month at the Georgetown Hospital. The suspect was only caught a few days after she died, at a house on Princes Street Lodge.The man had reportedly scaled a fence and stabbed the woman who was on duty at the Georgetown Nursing School.On May 9, Eunice Charlie was allegedly beaten to death by her husband, Ronald Charlie.According to a police press release, the woman died at the Lethem Hospital after receiving several lashes about the body.Charlie’s death came one day after plantain chip vendor, Gertrude Edwards, was allegedly slashed to death by her reputed husband Gladstone Edwards.It is alleged that the accused also wounded the woman’s 13 year daughter and 16 year old niece.Last March, Vreed-en-Hoop DVD sales vendor, Pamela Mangru, was stabbed thirteen times about the body, also allegedly by her reputed husband, Devon Limmerick.Twenty nine year old Latoya Woolford, on February 9 last, was slashed to death, allegedly by her husband Anthony Charles Woolford.The suspect later ingested a poisonous substance but survived and was charged with murder.(Latoya Giles)
