Grand Island Considers New City Hires
Grand Island is looking to hire more employees this year. But who will pay for the new workers?
City Council was considering a proposal to hire 13 new city employees due to the rise in population. However, two of the positions were rejected by the council. The remaining openings will cost almost $1,000,000. But the city says there will be no rise in taxes this year.
"The 13 positions that we proposed to council came to a total of $936,000, now that's for city wide. Now, for the general fund it came to just a little over $666,000. But we will back out $153,000 because of their decision from last Thursday night," said Monter.
The city has $900,000 set aside due to vacancies in city positions in the last year. That will go to paying for the new employees for this year, but not the future.
Monter said, "They may not have to increase New Balance Runners Ireland property taxes this year or occupation tax, or sales tax but they Air Max 1 will for the future and that's what we showed them during those budget sessions."
The need for the new workers comes from the population increase in the city.
"I think we are at a place now, though where our community has continued to grow and the demands have continued to grow and it's just Nike Runners Melbourne getting more difficult to meet those demands with a smaller Nike Roshe Safari Australia workforce," said Brenda Sutherland, the Human Resources Director with the city.
Of the 11 new jobs, seven will go to the police department with five new officers to be hired this upcoming Nike Air Max 90 Hyperfuse year.
In the past, the Police Department has grown with new employees, while other offices have lost workers to make up for it. However, the city says they cannot do that anymore.
Sutherland said, "I think we're at a place now where we can't keep reducing in other area to meet that. Now, the question is how many new positions can we afford to bring on and how we will pay for that."
The other openings are with the Utilities and Public Works departments.
The two jobs that were rejected by the council would have gone to the Public Works Department and the Heartland Public Shooting Range.
The City Council also has to consider the raises for city Nike Air Max Thea employees this Nike Air Force One Black year. Even more important is next year when many more employees Nike Roshe Run Nm will be entitled to raises.
