Pawtucket's Ranaudo starting to get it all under control
When Anthony Ranaudo finished his seven shutout innings his last time out for the PawSox, he entered the clubhouse with his arms raised over his head and received celebratory high fives.
"I Cheap Cialis Australia did it!" he shouted. "I didn't walk anybody!"
That start last Friday in Durham was Ranaudo's best of the season, as he allowed only two hits in his seven scoreless frames. He tied his season high with seven strikeouts.
But the number he was happiest about was the zero under walks. Ranaudo historically has had decent command; he entered this season having walked 3.5 batters per nine innings over his career, and he lowered that mark to three per nine in his breakout 2013.
This season has been a different story for him. He's walked at Generic Viagra Online least four batters in six of his 13 starts, including all three that preceded the outing in Durham. For the year, he's walking a batter every other inning.
"I try to pride Cialis 20mg Uk Online myself on Lovegra Australia being able to throw strikes, force contact, be aggressive and go at guys," said Ranaudo, who's thrown just over half of his first pitches for strikes this season. "It's tough to adjust to something you're not usually used to and definitely very frustrating. I think we've cleaned up some things in my mechanics. Hopefully I can get on a good roll with that."
The uncharacteristic command problems that have bedeviled Ranaudo only make his actual results seem even more impressive. Through 13 starts, Ranaudo has a 2.79 ERA, and his fielding independent numbers are better than those of Allen Webster.
Over his last five starts, Ranaudo has allowed just four runs in 311/3 Generic Kamagra Online innings good for a 1.15 ERA. Opponents are hitting .183 off him in that span.
"I think he's grown on the mental side of things," pitching coach Rich Sauveur said. "When you're able to have success without your best stuff or your best command, that Kamagra Australia Shop speaks a lot."
One thing to monitor with Ranaudo is his incorporation of a slider into his repertoire. The right hander is known for his terrific curveball that goes along with his fastball and changeup. He's thrown the slider five times in his last two starts, none of them for strikes just yet.
"It's coming along," said Sauveur. "Some guys pick up stuff very quickly, some guys it takes a little bit longer. He's never thrown a breaking ball that tight, and it's just taken him a little bit longer. He shows some very good sliders at times [in bullpen sessions], so it's just a matter of being consistent."
"It's way different," Ranaudo said. "I'm used to throwing a curveball which is 12 to 6. The way I throw my curveball, I've never really rotated my wrist. I don't break my wrist. That's new to me [with the slider]. It feels a little uncomfortable in my hand. I'm learning to trust it, and hopefully I Brand Viagra 100mg can keep going with that."
The benefits of adding an effective slider to that arsenal are obvious. Ranaudo's curveball is tremendous, and his changeup is a good weapon against left handed hitters. The slider would give him that same kind of weapon against righties, thrown a touch harder than his change.
"It's difficult. The hardest part for me is learning when to throw it, what counts, which guys," Cialis 5mg Pbs said Ranaudo. "Once I get that down, I think it will be a good pitch for me."
With rehabbing major leaguers Doubront and Clay Buchholz on the schedule, Ranaudo's next appearance is likely to come Thursday, piggybacking with fellow starter Steven Wright.
