Cdn star Gadon takes serious turn
Sarah Gadon is a U of T film studies major who has now been featured in two David Cronenberg movies including A Dangerous Method at this year's Toronto International Film Festival. You'd think that would be worth extra credit.
"Shouldn't it be?" Gadon says with a laugh. "But that's part of what makes being at TIFF Ralph Lauren Polo Tops Australia so exciting for me. I appreciate (A Dangerous Method) on so many levels. It's a stunning film, an amazing film, and one that my peers would study and appreciate."
In A Dangerous Method, Gadon plays Emma Jung, the wife of psychiatric pioneer Carl Jung and the odd woman out in an "intellectual triangle" between a patient turned analyst named Sabina Spielrein, Jung (with whom she had an S affair) and Jung's mentor Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen).
The sexually stalemated Emma (who nonetheless keeps the equilibrium in the Jung marriage) was followed by the role of Elise Shifrin in Cronenberg's just wrapped adaptation of Don DeLillo's Cosmopolis. "I play Robert Pattinson's wife, a woman from a wealthy New York family who's also a poet and artist and believes she shouldn't engage in any sexual relationship while she's creating her art, and that obviously informs her marriage."
So, we sum up, she's gone from one sexually dysfunctional marriage in a Cronenberg movie to another. "Is there any other kind of relationship in a Cronenberg movie?" she quips.
As good humoured as she is, things are getting serious for Gadon these days. The Toronto girl is leaving behind a childhood and adolescence of roles in shows like Are You Afraid Buy Polo Shirts Online of the Dark, Mutant X and Doc for serious cinema.
"A lot of the work I did in television when I was younger I did as a result of what was shooting in Toronto," she says. "But when it became my area of study, it changed my approach to what I do."
Filming with Cronenberg was another form of film school. She says she'd often be perched over his shoulder looking at monitors, taking note of how he'd use blocking to choreograph a scene. "Working with him is a step up and a move up in my growth as and actor and artist."
Mortensen, for one, was Fred Perry Shirts impressed with her work. "She did so much to realize the character with limited screentime, I would watch a movie about Mrs. Jung," he says.
Recently, Gadon has been in Budapest filming the Ken Follett miniseries World Without End, a 13th Century period piece directed by Michael Caton Jones and starring Miranda Richardson.
"I play Philippa, who is a lady of the court. Peter Firth is the earl and I'm one of the ladies of his court and she's caught Lacoste Polo Australia in this Lacoste Polo Australian Open terrible . well, I guess I'm not allowed to say much more than that. I play a character whose image is entirely based on pre Raphaelite paintings. So I wear a huge wig, blond, with tight, tight curls all the way down to my knee.
"Yes, it's been a hot summer. I went straight from Budapest to Venice (where A Women Polo Shirts Cheap Dangerous Method debuted the week before TIFF). I go back to Budapest at the end of October to finish my storyline."
