Laura Ingalls Wilder Days in Pepin
When: Sept. 13 14.
Where: Pepin, in relation to 3 hours northwest of Madison. day-to-day, May 15 through Tiffany Jewelry July 15, and includes items from Wilder's era. Admission will be $14 per family or $5 each adult and $2 for students. Surprise shop visits are free.
Tiny House Wayside, about seven miles north of Pepin, features a fake cabin where Wilder was born. This cabin is open anytime, but it has no lights as well as water and the area is not really plowed or shoveled in winter. The log cabin is staffed only while in Laura Days, when visitors normally takes a bus between the whole village and the cabin. But in Pepin, new and experienced fans alike get to remember some of their favorite "Little House" moments in the village's annual Laura Ingalls Wilder Days.
"(Wilder) really did an excellent job associated with describing life as it had been when she was a young child," said Dave Cruz, president of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society. Here is the 24th year for the once-a-year festival, which always runs the second full weekend in September. Wilder was born in Pepin, positioned about four hours northwest associated with Madison. Her first book, "Little House in the Big Woods,Inches starts in 1871, when Wilder was 4 years old, and is concerning her time in Pepin. The Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society was founded in 1974 and flows the Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum, which buildings maps, photos, documents along with artifacts from early Pepin. Furthermore, it maintains the Little House Wayside, a duplicate cabin located about seven miles north of the whole village "on actual land owned by Pa Ingalls," Fayerweather said.
